Blackwork is a counted thread method of embroidery traditionally using black thread on a linen or evenweave fabric. Usually the designs outline is stitched in a solid line then the internal areas of the design are filled with geometric patterns.
By using an even number of threads on the wrap and weft, a vast variety of geometric patterns can be achieved.
The two main stitches used are either Backstitch or Holbein Stitch (Double Running Stitch).
My aim is to modernise Blackwork designs by using traditional patterns to create interesting pictures using not just black but colour as well.
